Background
Kittan (キタン, Kitan) is one of the protagonists of the anime series, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, introduced as the leader of the Beastman hunting group with his sisters, Kiyoh, Kinon and Kiyal; the Black Brothers. He is an arrogant person who thought of himself as better than the Gunmen pilots, Simon and Kamina, going as far as calling them amateurs. Towards the end of the day they met, he finds a rival in Kamina, influencing Kittan to hijack a Gunmen for himself; King Kittan, so that he may battle against the Beastmen more efficiently. After his return, he chooses to fight side-by-side with Team Dai-Gurren, fighting for freedom together and accepting Kamina as his leader. Days following the defeat of Thymilph, he takes the role of Team Dai-Gurren's leader, temporarily, until Simon got back up on his feet, unhesitatingly giving up the role as leader. 7 years after the overthrowing of the Spiral King, Kittan takes a job as Kamina City's Legal Affairs Chief, realizing several episodes later that he shouldn't have held onto his position in the government. And so, he regains his position as a member of Team Dai-Gurren to fight against Earth's greatest threat yet; Antispiral. Towards the end of his life, he tasked himself with a final mission, which was to destroy the Death Spiral Machine to save Team Dai-Gurren from the intense gravity of the ultra-dense space. Simon accepts Kittan's final wish, taking in his will, helping him fight against this cosmic threat in spirit.
