“ | The universe has a beginning, but no end. Infinite. The stars also have a beginning, but their own power leads to their destruction. Finite. History dictates that the wise are the most foolish. This is a final warning from God, for those who can still resist. | „ |
~ Okabe's opening monologue |

Rintarou Okabe, also known as Okarin, an acronym for the Oka- from his surname and the Rin- from his first name, is a self-proclaimed mad scientist and the main protagonist of Steins; Gate.
Founded the "Future Gadget Laboratory", a small research institution situated above a CRT store. It is an area where he and his fellow Lab Members create "Future Gadgets for the betterment of mankind". He dubs himself Lab Member 001 (the first to join the lab). His parents run a family business, and he has once gotten an eggplant for Christmas.
Powers and Stats
Tier: 10-B
Dimensionality: 3-D
Powers and Abilities: Immortality (Type 6; When Okabe uses the D-Mail, he makes a change in the World Line Convergence causing everyone's memories to be altered making it look like the past in the other timeline never happened. As Kurisu explains with the Microwave, it can compress all the information or memories of the person's mind, encoding it into data in order to send it to the past. But under what is proposed by Occultic; Nine, the soul is in the brain or the mind, being that when it is separated from the body, it preserves the memories and the personality of the person in question, since the body is nothing more than a container of the soul), Genius Intelligence (He has created numerous unusual inventions and the most impressive is the Future Gadget # 204 that allows him to travel in a certain way in time to alter the timeline itself at your convenience), Time Travel (With Future Gadget # 204, your consciousness can travel back in time and change the past. And it acts like Precognition, as it would know exactly what events are destined to happen through World Line Convergence, a phenomenon that would lead to the same result in a certain set of world lines called fields of attraction), Preparation (With time of preparation it has been seen that it is capable of putting other brilliant scientists on the ropes and important members of large organizations), Limited Fate Manipulation (Through numerous attempts at time travel you can prevent the death of a person or another person who is supposed to should die if the first person does not die deceiving the universe and jumping between the unlimited existing timelines), Acausality (Type 1 and 3; With his Reading Steiner, he is immune to changes in the timelines, his memories never change and do not no matter what timeline you are in, your past before the time machine also does not change and can be replaced by your versions of the past or future), Nonexistent Physiology (Type 2, After numerous jumps in time Okabe's existence became fragile arriving to the point that his physical body and the memories that people have about him disappear)
Attack Potency: Human level
Speed: Average Human
Lifting Strength: At least Average Human
Durability: Human level
Stamina: Average
Range: Melee and Universal + with Time Travel
Standard Equipment:
- 'Mobile phone:' it used to make the future gadget n. 8 works. Obviously, it is also capable of doing normal telephone things.
- 'Future Gadget # 1 - Bit Particle Cannon:' A TV remote control shaped like a laser gun. However, only the "Canal +" button works, and you must turn on the TV manually to use the remote control. Inspired by the fictional anime 'Mobile Brave Gunbam'.
- 'Future Gadget # 2 - Bamboo-copter Camera Alternative edition Ver.2.67:' A three-wing bamboo helicopter with installed CCD camera. Inspired by the fictional anime '22 -emon '.
- 'Future Gadget # 3 - Would it be, ORA ORA!?!?:' A lie detector. Inspired by the fictional manga 'Juju's Delicate Adventure'.
- 'Future Gadget # 4 - Moad Snake:' A super instant humidifier in the shape of a Claymore mine. It also works as a smoke bomb. One of the few Future Gadgets that is used successfully. In several of the world lines where the Rounders attack Okabe and the other lab members inside the lab, Okabe uses it to distract them long enough for him to jump back in time.
- 'Future Gadget # 5 - Once Again I've Connected Something Useless, by Goemon:' A hair dryer that uses the residual heat from a vacuum cleaner. It uses too much electricity. Inspired by the fictional anime 'Lupants the 3rd'.
- 'Future Gadget # 6 - Cyalume Saber:' A glow stick similar to a lightsaber. Fake blood is installed to allow for imaginary and realistic sword fighting.
- 'Future Gadget # 7 - Active-Shell Optical Camouflage Ball:' A virtual optical camouflage machine made of CCD cameras and twelve CRT televisions. A large space is required. Inspired by the fictional manga 'Ghost in the Squad'.
- 'Future Gadget # 8 - Phone Microwave/Time Leap Machine:' This is a microwave oven with a remote control. It reheats your meals while you are away, but you must put the food in the microwave before you leave, which is not very hygienic, especially in summer. When exposed to excess electrons from an external source (such as the 42-inch Braun Tube TV), it can create Kerr black holes, allowing data and objects to travel in time. However, anything other than the information that passes through the black hole is "gelled." Also, only objects small enough to fit in the microwave can use it to physically travel through time (like bananas). Okabe uses it to send D-Mails back in time, although the mails have a word limit and generally arrive as multiple smaller mails. After Kurisu adds equipment to the microwave to allow memories to travel back in time, it is renamed the Time Leap Machine and used multiple times by Okabe to go back in time and prevent Mayuri's death. After Mayuri is saved, this Future Gadget is taken apart and thrown away, due to the dangers of further altering the timeline.
- 'Future Gadget # 204 2nd Edition Ver 2.31:' A legitimate and full-fledged time machine, created by Hashida Itaru in the year 2036. The time machine in the Alpha Attractor Field was still incomplete and, as a result, it was only capable of allowing the user to travel back in time, unlike the time machine developed by SERN, which allowed time travel in both directions. In the Beta world line, the time machine could travel both forwards and backwards in time, but it needed a large amount of fuel to travel.
Intelligence: Extraordinary Genius, after countless jumps in time he knew everything that could and would happen in the few weeks leading up to Mayuri's death, and was finally able to find a way to prevent Mayuri from dying at the hands of World Line Convergence in the Field. Alpha Attraction with the help of Makise Kurisu. In Steins; Gate 0, he was able to find a way to save Kurisu in the Beta Attractor Field by realizing that the universe can be fooled, and he formulated a complete plan down to insignificant details over a span of 14 years to achieve that goal. In a gamma World Line, he is the dictator of dystopian Japan, and a high-ranking member of both SERN and the Committee of 300. Professor Alexis Leskinen refers to him as the Third Einstein.
Weaknesses: You need prep time to use any of your devices. Future Gadget # 204 can only be used with Amane Suzuha (although she knows how to use a prototype in Steins; Gate 0 in the year 2025).
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
