Background
Sunless (or Sunny), is the main character of Shadow Slave. Growing up in the outskirts and leading a life of deceit and focusing on his own survival, he initially has a bleak outlook on life, even resigning himself to his fate when he was infected by the Nightmare Spell. But then, inside his First Nightmare, he resolved to himself that he must survive, no matter what.

Intelligence: Could reverse engineer a memory while locked in a cage, has repeatedly shown the ability to learn at high speeds, his memory is stated to be perfect, leading him to possess extensive knowledge across multiple fields such as cooking, combat, and sorcery. Was able to create a soulbound relic, which is something only a Daemon was shown to be able to do. He regularly outsmarts experienced opponents in combat, could predict the moves of the Valor and Song clans and position his citadel in the best possible place to further his own goals, and was able to outsmart the snow tyrant in Ariel's game.
Weaknesses: If his true name is said out loud by somebody, he can't refuse any command that comes from the person who uttered it[Note 7] | He can be forced out of the shadows by powerful enough light manipulation[Note 8] | Using shadow dance causes him to lose his mind in the sense that he completely assumes the identity of whoever or whatever he is shadowing[Note 9]
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
Shadow Dance is a skill set Sunny inherits from his aspect legacy, it's divided into levels of mastery or "steps". Kepp in mind that after the 3rd step Sunny risks loosing himself when using it.
- [First Step]: The point of the First Step Shadow Dance was not to mirror every movement to become a literal copy. It was to understand the very essence of the enemy's style and turn it against them.
- [Second Step]: Sunny's comprehension of the fundamental, governing principles of battle techniques is vastly elevated, allowing him to understand them on a deeper level. This helped Sunny grasp various styles much faster, as well as mirror more complex and sophisticated battle arts with ease. At this level, his understanding will also help him to recognize patterns of essence control from how the enemies moved, breathed, and attacked.
- [Third Step]: Sunny's ability to recognize and gain insight into patterns of combat techniques increases, allowing him to understand and predict not only the movement and behavior of enemies but also intricately sense the flow of essence through their bodies as well as being able to predict their thoughts. Shadow Dance now allowed Sunny to sense the movement of the mystical energy through the bodies of his opponents.
- [Forth Step]: The fourth step was about becoming the enemy, both in thought and in flesh.
- [Fifth Step]: The fifth step of Shadow Dance is the ability to shadow an enemy's powers and attributes—not just mimic their form, but also emulate their essence by fusing with Sunny's Shadows and augmenting those of his Domain, including humans and shades.
- [Sixth Step]: The sixth step involves breaking Sunny's to change his will in order to shadow different concepts.
Shadow Shell' existed as a combination of Sunny's Dormant Ability, Shadow Control, his Ascended Ability, Shadow Manifestation, and his Aspect Legacy, Shadow Dance. Sunny's mastery of Shadow Shell allowed him to transform into various creatures, such as serpents, leopards, and winged horrors. The most used shells will be listed.
- [Shadowspawn]: A fearsome creature almost three meters in height, with onyx black skin and bestial demonic face. Its mouth was full of sharp fangs and four long horns crowned its head, protruding from dark, coarse hair. The creature had four hands that ended with sharp claws and a long twisting tail. Its eyes were entirely black, with no irises and two vertical, furious pupils.
- [Onyx Serpent]: A mighty serpent clad in an onyx scale armor, with fangs as sharp as diamonds. He transformed the Shell hiding below his scales into an adamantine Mantle, an obsidian armor, light as a feather, and crafted not to restrict movement. In this shell was Sunny in his fragile incarnation. The river serpent was a monarch among beasts. Its long body was fast, mighty, and tenacious. It was incredibly fast and at home in the water.
- [Giant Form]: A colossus built from shadows aat least 100 m tall as a supreme. The giant's body was a perfect replica of the Lord of Shadows, with a titanic torso and two immense arms. A layer of glossy onyx covered the dark colossus, encasing him in impregnable armor. The light of enchanted lanterns couldn't dispel the darkness hiding his face.
A Trancendent Battle Art involves incorporating a ones own abilities into their combat style. Sunny had formulated its principles and now tempering them in battles against powerful opponents.
- [First Element]: The first element Sunny had to consciously integrate into his battle style was his ability to perceive movement through shadows (he can also tell illusions apart from real things using this ability) and see what was happening behind his back. He had spent time relearning the basics of combat and building his technique to fully utilize this subtle advantage.
- [Second Element]: The second element was movement, as it dictated balance, strength, and controlled space. Sunny's supreme mobility due to Shadow Step allowed him to control space and adapt his way of thinking about it.
- [Third Element]: The third element was group battle, as Sunny had multiple bodies (Shadow Avatar) and had trained himself to fight while controlling many bodies simultaneously. The boon of fighting in a group was not additive, but instead multiplicative, and he learned how to efficiently use group tactics without anyone's help.
- [Fourth Element]: The fourth element had to do with his Attributes, Blood Weave and Bone Weave. Sunny lacked several vulnerabilities that most humans possessed. He wouldn't bleed to death even if his artery was sliced open, and his bones were immensely resilient, to the point that breaking them was almost impossible. Therefore, he had to teach himself how to use these traits, which went against his most powerful instinct, the instinct of self-preservation. He did successfully change his behavior to strategically sacrifice non-vital parts of himself.
- [Fifth Element]: The fifth element was about the Onyx Shell, which allowed Sunny to freely change his weight or mass. He had incorporated the effects of the [Feather of Truth] trait of the Onyx Shell into his battle style. Learning how to use it not only comprehensively, but also instinctually utilizing the adaptable trait to enhance his every move.
- [Sixth Element]: The sixth element was about Shadow Manifestation. Sunny had the ability to manifest endless variations of tangible shadows, divided into two methods: summoning external implements like shadow hands or chains, which was destructive but lost too much potency in battles against powerful opponents, and altering the shape of his body with manifested shadows, from summoning additional limbs to building towering Shadow Shells.
- [Seventh Element]: The seventh element was what would evolve his transcendent battle art into a supreme one. It's related to the application of "will" and how it is incorporated into his battle art. For example, he can wrap it around his weapon to deal more damage or wrap it around himself and use it as armor.

All awakened possess the ability to manipulate essence in order to empower their bodies, the intricacy of their control varies between people and ranks, so Sunny's capability to manipulate essence as of each rank will be listed here.
- [Awekaned]: Awakened can not control essence with finesse, so their way of going about things was crude and rudimentary, mostly consisting of flooding the entirety of their bodies with essence.
- [Ascended]: A Master's control of essence was rather intricate, as was their understanding of the human body. By selectively infusing various areas, muscle groups, and organs with essence at just the right time, they were able to not only increase its efficacy, but also drastically reduce its consumption, thus raising efficiency.
- [Trancendent]: Saints can control soul essence as naturally as they were breathing, and with truly incredible finesse.
