t's the same for almost everyone. We expect starring roles in our lives but somehow we just end up with walk-on parts. Life doesn't have plots and subplots and denouements. It's just a big collection of loose ends and dangling threads that never get explained.
~ The Writer

Background

The Writer, also known by his real name Grant Morrison, is an author avatar of DC Comics writer Grant Morrison. Presented in their Animal Man run and alluded to in Final Crisis and its tie-ins, he is shown to be a supreme being to the characters inside the comics, being the man behind their creation and whose writting makes up their lives.

Note: Grant Morrison's status as a supreme being for DC Comics is something only fully embraced by Grant Morrison themselves, with other writers (most notably John Ostrander in his Suicide Squad run) amicably mocking Morrison for introducing themselves into continuity, and instead portray the Overvoid as the absolute bastion of the DC cosmology. As such, this profile only covers The Writer as expressed by Grant Morrison themselves.
